Animal rights activists have targetted the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival by altering a massive banner on the Tullamarine Freeway.
Animal Liberation altered the 18-metre banner from reading “It’s bigger than you think” to “It’s crueller than you think”.
The group claims it’s punters to the brutality within the racing industry which it claims is largely kept hidden.
Animal Liberation claims most racehorses in training are confined to stables up to 22 hours per day.
As a result of being fed an unnatural diet and unable to continuously graze, 90% of racehorses in training suffer from painful stomach ulcers. They also claim as a result of over exertion, 90% of racehorses suffer from bleeding of the lungs.
